Happy Birthday, Roman!
I've finally made time to start on Roman's blog! I believe this is such a GREAT idea to keep track of his development and growth and how much he's been changing!
First and foremost, I'd like to thank God for giving me the strength and courage to persevere along the journey of giving birth at home. For using my body as a temple to house one of the smartest, most beautiful and happiest baby boys on the planet (yes, I did say the PLANET!)
Yes, I did post these pics, and proud of it! I naturally gave birth to you at the age of 39. Without medication or hospitalization because I had you at home with midwives. I chose to have you in a "prayer" position on my knees as opposed to on my back. I was bearing down on the back of one of my dining room chairs (the next day it felt like I had been lifting weights all night {so that's where all of the pain went! THANK YOU DINING ROOM CHAIR!}) It was such a surreal experience that I can't remember pain just an odd sense of discomfort. It's like nothing I've ever experienced before but for some reason will know if I experience it again. Strange, huh?
My biggest cheerleader that night, besides my husband & kids, was my friend Michelle Egnatz. I have to say, without her I would've been so stressed out but she kept me calm and let me know that everything was fine. I can truly say that I love that woman and will be forever grateful for what she did for us that day:
It all started when I was having, what I thought at the time were, Braxton hicks (practice contractions). I called Michelle to get her opinion as to whether they were false or real. She said she'd be right over
(she lives two minutes away, around the corner).
She arrived and Clara, your big sissy, was tracking my contractions with thebump.com contraction timer. I would say, "It's doing it again!" then I'd follow up with, "It's gone." We transferred from the bath tub to the birthing pool at around 10pm. Your brothers, James and Logan and sister got in with me for the first few minutes until I was uncomfortable and needed my own space. This went from 7pm until you arrived at 11:27pm (4 and a half hours of labor from start to finish; the fastest birth I've had with all four of my kids).
Anyway, as you can see from the last photo on the reel, you were happy to come into our world. I just couldn't believe that I actually got up out of that water, delivered the placenta and sat down on the couch so the midwives could check my vitals. I've never recovered so fast after giving birth!

The Food We Ate!
There was lots of yummy goodies to please the palette! I sampled each and every one. I really enjoyed the pasta salad and the cake.
Chicken salad rolls, donettes, pasta salad, pita & hummus, tortillas & salsa, pickles and a cake that read "It's A Roman!"
The Games We Played!
We played several games. One was the reason we're all wearing bibs in the photos. We thought of a nick name we'd give our future child or a child that we already have. I chose "Shuga". Each person had three baby safety pins pre-stuck in their bibs. If someone didn't call you by the nick name you wrote on your bib and accidentally slipped and used your real name {and if you or someone else caught it} they had to give you one of their safety pins and vice-verse. The object of the game is to collect the most safety pins to win. It was so much fun catching people. Jess ended up winning the game.
Another one was where we were given a bag of play-doh and were told to create a baby. I was to judge the baby and choose the best one that resembles a cute baby.
It was slim pickin's---so difficult!
I made so many comments on each one.
Finally I chose!
